Hi, my name is Maggie (Meiqi) Sun. I was born in Shanghai and moved to Hong Kong when I was 11 years old. I lived there for two years, then moved to Montreal, where I attended an international boarding school. We had students coming from all over the world. Since the town where the school is situated borders Vermont, we had students commuting between the Canada-U.S. border every day. My family has moved to Toronto since I came to Wesleyan.

My mother tongue is Mandarin, and I grew up learning English, attending international kindergarten and primary school while I was still in Shanghai. I learnt how to speak Cantonese after moving to Hong Kong, then started learning French after moving to Montreal. Since Canada is bilingual and Quebec is a French province, it was mandatory to take French at school.

Growing up between cultures has spawned my interest in global engagement. Though I have learnt how to adapt to different cultures, I hope that I can become more interculturally competent as I continue to embark on my journey.
